Welcome to the SAMANTHA Online Course, the right place to improve your skills in Additive Manufacturing

The SAMANTHA Online Course consists of several training materials and learning contents in English, including text, slides, and videos covering both technical and transversal skills, divided in a total of 9 Learning Modules.
This online course promotes the collaborative activities of users as students, teachers, staff from toolmaking industry or habitat sectors, and experts in different fields which ables them to learn and share experiences.
At first, learners can assess their previous knowledge concerning each module before participating in and at least they can finalize and reach their certificate by completing all modules' content and passing the exams.

About the SAMANTHA Project

The project name SAMANTHA stands for “Skills in Additive Manufacturing for the Toolmaking and Habitat Sectors”.

It is a European ERASMUS+ KA2 project with 7 partners from 4 European countries (Germany, Italy, Spain, Slovenia) and a project duration from September 1st, 2019 - August 31st, 2022,

Project number 2019-1-DE02-KA202-006458.
SAMANTHA aims to develop an innovative training program that addresses the high-tech T-shaped skill gaps for the proper implementation of Additive Manufacturing in the value chains of the Toolmaking industry and the Habitat sector through a skilled workforce.SAMANTHA not only focuses on those technical skills and competencies needed for using AM; but also, addresses the high lack of transversal skills under the current educational curricula for being creative, innovative, and entrepreneurial professionals capable of advancing research.

Learning Modules

Technical Skills

What is Additive manufacturing? How does it work? And when it has been started? This module gives you a general description of the meaning of additive manufacturing and its history. Thanks to this module you will qualify as knowing about the principles of additive manufacturing technology and its workflow besides the main assistant part, 3D printing.
Do you know which AM technology to chose in order to 3D print a precise part that is suitable in Toolmaking or Habitat industry? Thanks to this module you will get an overview on several AM printing technologies which are suitable for given product in terms of specifications and used material, and moreover you will be able to select according to actual needs the adequate AM printing technology.
Do you know how 3D printing works during additive manufacturing? How does the model for manufacturing design and which software do we need? This Module gives an account of programs and software that provide evidence to support the 3D printing technology and make a significant contribution to designing, testing, orienting, repairing, and generating the G-code. It gives you also a concise summary of the 3D printing workflow.
How does the production process in additive manufacturing? What is the role of 3D printing and how much does choosing the right 3D printing technology have an impact? Thanks to this module besides focusing on definitions of both toolmaking and habitat sectors, you will shape your thinking about the production process and the level of geometries’ complexity. This module goes also into a great deal to an understanding about the best 3D printing technology and the exotic or unusual approaches of additive manufacturing.
This Module provides an overview on materials that can be used during AM processes, in particular for 3D printing applications. An introduction concerning AM materials will discuss their general aspects and categorization according to their nature, then the different materials for each specific AM techniques will be analysed. AM materials environmental sustainability aspects will be also discussed together with some examples of innovative materials. Finally, an overview on examples of materials and applications that are specific for toolmaking and habitat sectors will be done.

Transversal Skills

Do you know what is creativity? And Innovation?

Thanks to these units you will be able to understand these two different and complementary concepts. You will get a general overview about the two topics and the relation between them; then you will continue with a deep explanation on the creativity process and how creativity could be transformed in ideas at first, and then, into opportunities. It will be possible also to have an analysis on the term “Innovation” with a focus related to innovation and technology. Also, you will learn some practical techniques to generate innovative and creative ideas.

Have fun with the learning content and interactive exercises and good luck for the module final exam!
What is communication and how can you improve it?

In this module you will get an overview of the basic principles of the communication process, the interpretation of messages and some techniques to shape successful communication at work. The module is completed with a practical reference to the topics of presenting and networking. After each learning unit you will have the opportunity to deepen your knowledge through training assignments.

Have fun with the learning content and interactive exercises and good luck for the module final exam!
The module is divided in 6 units, and you will be able to learn the importance of project management to understand the environment, an idea of all you need to be a project manager, a guide to the steps a project must go through to meet all its goals, a list of online tools to perform a fruitful virtual teamwork, an analysis of the terms Strategic Intelligence and Technology Watch, a set of techniques and resources to apply surveillance and intelligence process.

Moreover, you will see references on how to apply Additive Manufacturing in the habitat and toolmaking sectors.
This module provides an overview of Business Model Innovation (BMI) concepts and processes and introduces collaborative methodologies and tools that may provide innovation practitioners with the skills to co-create, grow and scale sustainable business solutions. The module also features examples of best practices from different industries, including some case studies from the habitat sector.
